Alesong Wins 5 Medals, Small Brewery of the Year at 2021 Oregon Beer Awards
Eugene’s Alesong Brewing & Blending won five medals and was named “small brewery of the year” at the virtual 2021 Oregon Beer Awards (OBA) ceremony, the state’s annual commercial beer competition. The Oregon Beer Awards recognizes the most outstanding beers and breweries in Oregon, with professional judges sorting through a double-blind competition of nearly 1,100 entries from 105 breweries across the state to award medals in 28 categories.
Showing their breadth of expertise, Alesong took home medals across five distinct categories -
Gold for their tart farmhouse ale Pacific Bliss in the Belgian Beers, German Wheat Beers, and Traditional Brett Beers category
Gold for Gose Añejo, their tequila-barrel-aged, margarita-inspired beer, in the Experimental Beers category
Silver for their blended, bourbon-barrel-aged strong ale, Rackhouse Reserve, in the Barrel Aged Beers category
Bronze for their imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with coconut, Coconut Rhino Suit, in the Barrel Aged Stouts category
And bronze for Señor Rhino, their Mexican-hot-chocolate inspired beer, in the Pastry or Dessert Beers category
Brewery of the Year recognitions are based on medals won and Alesong’s showing was enough to also earn them the best small brewery in Oregon for the 2021 competition. Portland’s Von Ebert Brewing and Breakside Brewery won medium and large brewery of the year, respectively.
“We’re shocked and thrilled to be recognized as the best small brewery in Oregon” said Brian Coombs, Alesong cofounder. “The Oregon beer community is producing some of the best beer in the country and to win big like this is quite an honor! It’s a nice tribute to all the hard work and passion we put into these beers and great to show that Portland is not the only place in Oregon to get amazing beer!”
Pacific Bliss, Coconut Rhino Suit and Señor Rhino are all currently available for tasting at Alesong’s downtown tasting room in the Fifth Street Public Market (12-8 daily) and bottles of Gose Añejo and Rackhouse Reserve can be found at retail locations around Eugene.
