Farm to Food Bank Diverts 13,000 lbs of Local Food to Those Most in Need
The Coronavirus pandemic has exposed a number of weaknesses in our food supply chain and many in our Eugene community have stepped up to help reimagine a less wasteful food system.
At the height of our regional outbreak, FOOD For Lane County (FFLC) and Willamette Farm and Food Coalition (WFFC) conceived and deployed a one-of-a-kind program. For 5 weeks the organizations partnered to purchase over 13,000 lbs of food from small local food producers that were severely impacted by the pandemic and distribute that food to the community. Most of these products were used in FFLC’s Mobile Pantry, a free food service for low-income community members.
The infographic below summarizes results. Willamette Farm and Food also created a full report covering all the details of the project.
